We went back to our favourite place in the Sea of Cortez (so far), at Isla Danzante. Saw devil rays jumping out of the water around the boat. A big 72’ power yacht, Tango, anchored in front of us and we quickly became good friends over three nights of too many bottles of wine. We sailed together down to Agua Verde for another night of hanging out. Tess and I walked into the little “town“ hoping to buy some goat cheese from a lady who raises goats in the village. We found her place but were told that she had gone to the pueblo, so apparently this place didn’t even merit that title. Lots of pig pens, turkeys, goats, cows and other critters to go with the handful of houses. Interesting but very conscious of just how poor many of the people here are. All of the men are fishermen, of course.

Today we sailed down to Tembabichi. We caught three skipjacks and had another one get off just before I got him into the boat. Had a couple of other bites as well but effectively that works out to catching a fish every 2 miles. Just wish at least one of them would be something that we want to eat. After we anchored, a local fishermen sold us a fish but we can’t recall the name he called it. Filleted it for us and it cost $7.50 for two meals worth of fish. We threw in a beer as well. We have just eaten it and decided that it must’ve been a skipjack! We assume the stripes fade like mahi color because the fish he showed us had no stripes. Edible, but neither of us cared for the flavour or texture. Tomorrow we are heading to Isla San Francisco to ride out a norther that’s going to last a couple of days.
