Spent the night at this great little anchorage. Around the corner of the point is the official start of the Sea of Cortez and the Tropic of Cancer. Small fishing village right on the beach and some nice rental homes as we are about an hour from La Paz by road. BBQd pork loin, sat on the deck looking at the stars for a while and then flipped on the underwater lights which attracted probably 1000 fish, all about a foot long. Discovered that the underwater lights cause some kind of plankton to glow like twinkle lights all around the back half of the boat when we turned them off. There would be a three second lull and then the fish would go into a feeding frenzy and every last glowing light would be devoured within about 90 seconds! Did that several times.

Used our hand line (hand reel fishing line, aka Cuban yo-yo) for the first time and had one big bite that took our entire lure. I’ve had it back out again this morning with several bites on a new lure but no catch as of yet. Can’t wait to see the cat’s reaction to landing a fish!

Water is now 88° and the low last night was 84 with 75% humidity. Slept in the cockpit because no amount of fans could keep us cool in bed. Off to Bahia de los Muertos, so named for the “dead anchors“ that were sunk in the 1920s to allow freighters to load silver ore from a railroad pier. The anchors were actually train axles.
