Spent three days at this small island close to Puerto Escondido. Did a little hiking and a lot of just enjoying. The first night we were here was the full moon and the sergeant major fish were spawning (we think) with larger fish ravenously eating the spawn. The whole bay was absolutely in turmoil at dusk and it left a filmy froth on the surface of the whole place. Really interesting as the action lasted until almost exactly 30 minutes after the moon was visible over the island, when it stopped almost instantly.

By the third day the water had cleared from the hurricane and visibility was probably 75 feet. Saw a large black snake while hiking, called a coachwhip – non-poisonous. Flew the drone for the first time from the boat. The black witch moths (first picture) are not only huge, they sucked the juice out of all of our ripe plantains that were hanging in a net, rendering them disgustingly inedible.

Today we moved over to Isla Carmen and will be here for a couple days exploring the ghost town. Saw a whale and a number of rays leaping out of the water. Caught a mahi-mahi on the way here, first fish dinner of our own doing!
